4:35am. 98 pages inked in 12 days. Pushing through the wall. Lost some ground writing some pitches and making that Austin Books and Comics and Greg Fitzsimmons animations, but hopefully those effort pay off. Just got my table assignment from APE in the mail. It's all happening.

Buffalo Speedway Vol. 3 - Inking Page 48

Just finished page 48 (I'm working in order). Page 48 is the end of chapter 5, the calm before the storm. Chapter 6 is going to be a sonovabitch because it has a shit load of cars. Cars take a lot of pencil mileage (pun sort of intended) but I can zone out and listen to hours and hours of podcasts. I'd like to thank Fitzdog Radio, The Nerdist, Jimmy Dore, Comedy Film Nerds, Jordan Jessie Go and /Filmcast for accompanying me on my journey.

Here’s What Should Have Happened in Super 8...

Let me preface this by saying that I LOVED this movie. Needless to say... SPOILER ALERT.

Here’s what I think should have happened. The teacher, Dr. Woodward, should have died in the crash. The kids find his body, he’s clutching the map with weird notes scribbled on it. Charles (the kid director) and Joe are fond of the teacher so they go to the school to reminisce and that’s when they crack open the DUNGEON (the place where old man Woodward kept his contraband).

Sifting through Dr. Woodward’s belongings Joe and Charles discover his notes from when he was a secret military scientist. Joe and Charles THINK that Dr. Woodward was writing a Monster Movie, because who would ever think their teacher was a super secret military scientist. So they change their Zombie movie to a Monster movie to honor Dr. Woodward’s dream.

We hear snippets from the files, about what the monster is capable of (psychic powers, it’s size, cocooning people) throughout the movie as the town is dealing with the strange goings on. The kids are oblivious to the threat as they film their movie. It’s only until they get the developed film back when they realize IT’S ALL TRUE!

Then. At the end when Joe is being clutched by Super 8 the Monster, he offers himself as a sacrifice. “Take me, leave my friends alone!” When the monster is about to take off in the rebuilt spaceship with Joe, Kyle Chandler (the Dad) drives up and has to save his son. A reverse from the Baseball Camp-pushing away scene at the beginning, and also a reverse of Close Encounters (don't get on the spaceship). Joe realizes that his father does in fact need him/ love him. The end.

Here’s what should have happened in The Hangover Part II

First of all the movie should have started with the guys waking up the dingy room. We all know the set-up, we didn’t need that much exposition.


Second of all the actor they chose to play the kid and future brother-in-law of Ed Helm’s character should have gone to a comedian who could improvise with the rest of the cast. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but if we were supposed to care whether he lived or died he should have at least been an interesting character.


I didn’t mind that it was the exact same movie beat-for-beat, I minded the catalyst for getting the guys knocked out again. So here’s what should have happened... The kid should have been subject to listening to the Wolf Pack reveling in their adventures in Vegas. He realizes that he hasn’t lived his life... so he drugs the guys in hopes of generating another wild night. 

***UPDATE*** How amazing would it have been if Charlyne Yi played the kid? Then Zach's character could not only dislike her because she's a new threat, but a "girl who doesn't know how to party."

Here’s what should have happened in Thor...

No one asked, but if they did...

Set up the same way, but instead of Anthony Hopkins banishing Thor to Earth, he should have sent the hammer to Earth and locked Thor up in jail on Asgard.

Then the Ice Giants infiltrate Asgard again, this time nearly fatally wounding Anthony Hopkins. Loki tells Thor that their father is dying and that Thor needs to go to Earth to find the mystical something or other that will be a cure.

Thor goes to Earth, but his motivation is more to get his hammer than finding the cure (because he has yet to grow and think selflessly). Loki shuts down the portal behind him, tricking him and insuring that no one on Asgard can stop his overthrow. Also get rid of Thor’s backup dancers, the ones who look like the Black Eyed Peas, because they serve no purpose.

While on Earth, Thor runs into Natalie Portman; she’s the only scientist who believes in the wormholes, so she’s the only one who can get Thor back.

Meanwhile SHIELD is still trying to figure out what the hammer is doing stuck in the ground. Loki catches wind that Natalie Portman is nearing completion on the Wormholinator and sends the giant metal robot to destroy Earth. Thor (at half strength) summons the courage to save the next town set to be destroyed. He gets his hammer back as Natalie Portman figures out how to send Thor back. Thor seemingly kills the giant metal robot.

Final fight happens on the rainbow bridge with Thor against Loki and a horde of ice giants. Thor's ace up the sleeve is the giant metal robot, who is reprogrammed and kills Loki. With Loki dead, Anthony Hopkins awakens.
